Okalani Bed and Breakfast near Castres - Chambre d'hotes
Castres is situated within ten minutes of our chambres d'hotes, 70 kms from Toulouse and is built on the banks of River Agoût. It dates back to around 647 and was built around a Benedictine Abbey on the site of an old roman camp. There are many places of interest, one being the Goya Museum. Opposite the Goya Museum is the St Benoît cathederal which dates from IX century and the Gardens of Evéché were designed by Le Nôtre.
Apart from the history Castres is a young and buzzy town and in 1997 it was designated as the most sporting town in France. There is a large sports complex in Castres, L'Archipel which is home to an indoor pool, as well as a large outdoor pool complex with water slides. In the winter months L'Archipel also has a skating rink.
La Goujarde is a huge park area which is located near to the camp site and has a large play area for children as well as mini golf and a nine hole golf course. Within La Gourjade is the river stop for the boat which runs through the summer months along the River into Castres.
Castres is great town for shopping, it has two markets which run daily. In the main square is the bustling fresh produce market, which on a Saturday spreads out along the river. In the Place Albanique is another market which changes daily, one day materials the next, bric a brac. As well as the markets there are a great variety of shops for all age groups.
All of the above are accessible from Okalani within 10 minutes.
